This month’s 10 on 10 is a glimpse of our day at Churchill Park sans Daddy because he’s been out of town working too hard. This park holds many memories for me as it was my neighbourhood park. The steep hill was where we would occasionally drag our toboggans to brave the speed and inevitable wipe out (we were more Percy Park hill kids). The infamous rocket ship, that was modified many years back, once held proudest little girl moments of sliding down the pole for the first time and learning the benefits of shorts to control my speed of decent. There were many days where we would take a picnic and spend all day there splashing in the new (now really old and outdated) splash pad, and feeding the ducks and deer. This park remains the last park in Cambridge that also features animals. I attribute this park to my ability to bellow out a wicked peacock call. It’s fond memories of being outside, being a kid, finding independence and new friends while parents congregate on a bench near by that propels me to want the same for my children. I am often given remarks from parents about how active Maxwell is and I simply explain that I am a child of the 70’s and so I am trying my best to saftely adhere to a parenting style before worries and what if’s took over, before technology was what to do, and before an old man in the park was seen as a danger.
